Spotlight on Family Law Attorney Stephanie Murphy
Stephanie L. Murphy is currently President-Elect of the 2019-2020 Board of Directors for our Sarasota Chapter.
Stephanie was born and raised in Polk County, Florida, and attended high school at Lake Wales Senior High School. Long before beginning law school, she endeavored to help people and be a problem-solver. As the youngest of 6 children, the daughter of a citrus grower and school teacher in central Florida, Stephanie was encouraged to pursue her dreams. She graduated from Stetson law school in 2001, and for the last 17 years her practice has been focused on family law matters – particularly cases involving high-conflict matters, multiple-issues and/or complex subjects.
Since 2008, Stephanie has had her own boutique practice law firm and works alongside her husband, Attorney Kevin Murphy. In addition to representing family law clients, Stephanie has lectured on Family Law matters, including a lecture to the Southwest Florida Paralegal Assocation last summer about “Divorce in Florida;” and to the Sarasota County Bar Association’s Family Law Section on “Support Under the I-864 Affidavit: The Who, What, When, Where and Whys for Family Law Practitioners.” Stephanie’s article entitled, “The Couple’s Contract” was published by SRQ Magazine in February 2013. In addition, Stephanie has been a committed member of Sarasota FAWL, including service for the past three years on its board and has also served two terms on the Florida Supreme Court’s Mediator Qualifications Discipline and Review Board.
Outside of the office, Stephanie is married to fellow attorney Kevin Murphy and has two school-aged children. She enjoys running and fitness, and coaching and volunteering for activities at her children’s school. In 2018, she trained for her first half marathon, which she ran in Sarasota in February 2019. She is currently training for her second half marathon and working towards her goal of running a full marathon in 2020. Stephanie enjoys time with her family, exploring our beautiful Florida environment, and gardening at her home. She also likes to sew quilts and create crafts and gifts for her family, and tries to find time to read novels, as well.
