Sarasota FAWL Congratulates Board Member, Crystal Bailey on Her Selection as General Counsel to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office

Senior Assistant General Counsel Crystal Bailey is promoted to general counsel by Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman, the Sheriff's Office announced Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021.


Sarasota FAWL congratulates its board member, Crystal Bailey on her elevation from senior assistant general counsel at the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office to general counsel.  She has been with the Sheriff’s office since 2014, after having previously been an Assistant State Attorney in the Sixth Judicial Circuit where her worked included being part of the gang prosecution team.  She’s worked under the newly elected Sheriff Hoffman since 2014 and she understands ‘[w]hat motivates him and how he makes decisions. This job really is centered around integrity and what is the right thing to do.”

With an $100 million agency budget, her work varies from advising the agency on new court decisions to writing and reviewing agency policy to contract negotiation to training officers.  In the wake of the 2019 Parkland school shooting, she wrote the policy for risk protection orders that keep firearms from dangerous people and individuals with mental illness.
