SARASOTA FLORIDA ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN LAWYERS, INC. The Sarasota Chapter of the Florida Association For Women Lawyers, Inc. was established in 1984 and has approximately 60 members. Its purposes: to provide educational monthly meetings; to promote networking among female and male lawyers in the community; to provide mentoring for women lawyers through members and other resources; to establish a referral base, and to encourage cooperation, support, and friendships among attorneys. Membership is available to all lawyers, male and female, and law students. Meetings are held each month with the times alternating between luncheon meetings and socials. Local and nationally recognized guest speakers are utilized to present a variety of topics during the meetings. In addition to monthly meetings, Sarasota FAWL has annual continuing education programs. Other regularly scheduled activities include an annual Judicial Reception during the Spring of each year and an annual Holiday party during the month of December. The Judicial Reception is one of the best attended events each year. Both judges and attorneys alike are able to meet with each other on common ground for pure socialization. The reception is typically attended by members of the local judiciary, as well as Judges of the Second Judicial Circuit. In addition to programming for members, Sarasota FAWL selects an annual charity which enables members to reach out to the most needy in our community.
